Host institution/organization in Japan:
Prof. Yasuo KITANE, Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University,
2 years from April 2025
Studying in Japan, especially at Kyoto University, has always been a lifelong dream. I was fortunate enough to begin my academic journey as a MEXT scholar in the Structural Mechanics Laboratory, surrounded by a fully supportive environment. Moreover, Kyoto offers the peaceful and cultural atmosphere I have always cherished.
My transition was made seamless by the unwavering support of the Honda Foundation (HOF), the Y-E-S Program team, MEXT Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, MAJA, my teachers from YTU, and the professors and staff at Kyoto University. I am deeply grateful for kindness shown during the period of the Myanmar earthquake just before my arrival. From the assistance provided by HOF with my initial housing payments to the thoughtful "Fuji-view" seat arranged during our Tokyo trip, the Y-E-S Program has truly felt like family to me.
At the heart of my success is my senior from my home university, a past awardee, who has been my pillar of support and motivation from the very beginning. My success in the entrance exam is a direct result of his dedicated mentorship, along with the sincere and warm support of my senior from Science Tokyo. Furthermore, the daily kindness and encouragement from Myanmar seniors, my lab members, and my friends, both Japanese and international students, have turned a foreign environment into a second home.
My Professor, Kitane Sensei, and Assistant Professors, Matsumoto Sensei and Sato Sensei, provide the visionary guidance necessary for my research. They encourage critical problem-solving and independent thinking essential for my personal and professional development. This combination of institutional support and personal friendship has created the perfect environment for my growth as a master’s student. I am honored to be part of this international network and am dedicated to contributing to global infrastructure development in the future.
