The first impression about this internship was the Japanese people and the environment in Japan. My host company was located in Okinawa so I could enjoy the life in Okinawa which was completely different from other parts of Japan. In many parts of Japan, people were stressed because of overworking. People in Okinawa were really calm. Most of them have a good balance between work and family. Since Okinawa is a paradise of Japan, it was a good opportunity for me to visit very beautiful beaches and enjoy the nature. During my stay in Okinawa, I could also enjoy different kinds of Okinawa foods. Some of those were different from other parts of Japan. Another thing I noticed about Japanese People was their habits and working styles. When they do something, they usually want it to be perfect. For example, most Japanese people do not want to speak English because they think their English is not perfect although they can speak it. Another interesting thing during my internship was the architecture of Okinawa. Before I participated in this internship, I thought buildings in Japan must be tall and really big to cover the cost of expansive land like in Tokyo. But in Okinawa, most buildings were really small and modernized. I could even see some small traditional houses. I could also learn some traditional behaviors in Okinawa. For example, people usually put some statues in front of their houses as a charm which protect them from bad things. They call it Shisa. After I finished this internship, I gained not only professional knowledge but also social skills such as working with a team, cooperating with other employees and a good network with professionals. All of these will be really useful for my future career.
