Honda Y-E-S Award 2009 in Cambodia Award Ceremony Highlights

Four Excellent Students Received the 2nd Y-E-S Award in Cambodia

The award ceremony for the 2nd Y-E-S Award in Cambodia took place at CJCC in Phnom Penh on January 29, 2010. Based on their performance records, interviews, and essays, four most brilliant students were selected from the applicants who study science or engineering at either of the two affiliated Cambodian universities.
In his congratulatory remarks, Director General of Higher Education Dr. Pak Thavin from Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport acknowledged: "I see a bright future in the direction the Honda Foundation delineates through the harmonization of science and humanity. I appreciate their inclusion of Cambodia in their Y-E-S Award program."
The awardees were celebrated by more than 300 guests including their families and friends as well as the government officials. The venue was hot with excitement, and envious looks of the awardees' friends reflected mounting expectations of young Cambodians for the Y-E-S Award program.

Dr. Pak Thavin
Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport

Education is an investment. It nurtures a society through educated individuals and their families. This enriches the pool of human resources. I encourage all students to study hard to become economically self-reliant. I see a bright future in the direction the Honda Foundation delineates through the harmonization of science and humanity. I appreciate their inclusion of Cambodia in their Y-E-S Award program. Today all people are responsible for environmental preservation. Let's work together, not individually, for greater happiness of humanity. Cambodia strives to thrive on the 3R's, Reduce use of Resources and Recycle. Science has a great power, but we wish to avoid misusing it by moving in the direction of the Honda Foundation's principles.
H.E. Mr. Masafumi Kuroki
Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia

Both Japan and Cambodia have experienced nation rebuilding after the devastation of war. In the case of Japan, which has almost no natural resources and limited land space, diligence and the development of human resources were the key to the reconstruction of the country. Under such circumstances, many young and ambitious entrepreneurs started up new businesses, such as Mr. Soichiro Honda in the spirit that "through science and technology, we endeavor to fulfill the dreams and happiness of all people".
Cambodia is now at the stage of full development after the peace building and reconstruction (that have taken place in 1991). There is an important need to foster human resources, in particular in science and technology, in order to develop the productive sectors, which contribute greatly to economic and social development. I highly appreciate the fact that the Honda Foundation contributes to the formation of Cambodian students in science and technology through this Award.
